  40. This is just a little gizmo to work with the Demon AmiTCP
  41. installation. It possibly won't cope with any other AmiTCP setup but
  42. you can try. To start with it needs a script called "startnet" in
  43. Amitcp:bin/. You can set the tooltypes to reflect the programs you
  44. want to use for linking, ftp, mail, news, etc.
  45.  
  46. It was written using a mixture of CanDo 2.0 and 3.0 and requires the
  47. supplied cando.library (in libs:). Sorry about the *enormous* ASCII
  48. Art logo, but I just got Photogenics and I wanted to try it out. :)

  50. Unfortunately, any errors in location or setup just result in the
  51. program not running at all, with no explanation for what went wrong.
  52. Make sure that you have Rexxc in your path, or copy the "RX" program
  53. from Rexxc into C:.

  56. Requirements
  57. ------------

  59. As far as I know it should run on any Amiga with an AmiTCP
  60. installation (and possibly a Demon account :)). I have tested on an
  61. Amiga 3000 and 3000T running WB3.1 and also an A4000/040 running
  62. WB3.0. I don't think that there is a reason why it shouldn't run on
  63. an earlier operating system, but you do need ARexx. To use the
  64. GetNews button you must have the script "NNTPTransfer" in AmiTCP:bin.
  65. The provided nntptransfer script has a couple of alterations to the
  66. one provided by DIS, namely paths for all the commands and an
  67. automatic retry if News is busy (thanks Tez (Tez@tezboyes.demon.co.uk)).

  70. Installation

  73. This part's really tricky so pay attention.

  75. Copy AmiTCPHelper anywhere you like. :)

  77. (Seriously, do check that the tooltypes agree with your set up and
  78. that the supplied nntptransfer script is in AmiTCP:bin.)

  81. Buttons
  82. -------

  84. The buttons do what they say they do. If you have entered NONE for
  85. some of the tooltypes then AmiTCPHelper disables that button.
  86.  
  87. The Mail button changed in version 1.07 to account for multiple
  88. mailboxes. I'm afraid it's a bit unfriendly at the mo, but I hope to
  89. sort it out in versions to come. If you only have one mailbox, then
  90. you won't notice any changes, if you have more than one, however,
  91. then clicking on the Mail button will bring up a requester asking
  92. which mailbox you want to look at. Unfortunately, owing to CanDo not
  93. being able to put variables into a requester I can only get it to say
  94. "Box1", "Box2", etc. but now a key is given in the body of the
  95. requester.

  97. Ping, Finger, Clock & now Telnet
  98. --------------------------------

  100. Just type in the name of whoever you want to ping or finger and hit
  101. return. Clock works the same way and will save the resulting time.
  102. AmiTCPHelper will pop up a window with the relevant details. I have
  103. finally added Telnet to AmiTCPHelper, it's not that it was difficult
  104. to do, it's just that I never use it, so I didn't put it in. But then
  105. again, I hardly ever use Gopher, but I put that in, so there you go
  106. :þ

  108. Telnet works the same way that all the other field-based tools in
  109. AmiTCPHelper do, just type in where you want to go. You can include
  110. the port name as well.

  113. Newsgroups
  114. ----------

  116. This window will list any newsgroup configs you have. You can
  117. double-click on an entry to make it the current "NewsGroups" file.
  118. Newsgroup files should be named "newsgroups.what_you_like" and put in
  119. where newsroups normally go, your Amitcp:usr/lib directory. This is
  120. where AmiTCPHelper will look for them. Your original newsgroups file
  121. is copied to AmiTCP: and then copied back to AmiTCP:usr/libs when you
  122. quit AmiTCPHelper. You might want to make a newsgroups.std list
  123. containing your standard config in case AmiTCPHelper accidentally
  124. overwrites your original newsgroups because your machine has crashed
  125. or something.

  130. Tooltypes and their meanings:

  133. If you enter NONE for the tooltypes for FTP, Mail, Gopher, WWW, IRC or
  134. HList, then AmiTCPHelper will disable the appropriate button. (HList
  135. doesn't have a button but it won't be looked for when a web browser
  136. is loaded.)

  138. WindowX        Gives the final x position of the AmiTCP helper on
  139.         the screen.
  140.  
  141. WindowY        Gives the final y position of the AmiTCP helper on
  142.         the screen.
  143.  
  144. DONOTWAIT    Standard commodity stuff if you want AmiTCPHelper in
  145.         your WBStartup drawer.
  146.  
  147. FTP        Put the path and name of your favourite FTP tool here.
  148.         Possibilities would include "AmiTCP:bin/mftp" or
  149.         "Comms:AmiTCP/ftp", etc. (No quotes are needed). I
  150.         have tested it with both of these and ncftp.

  152. Mail        As for FTP. It has been tested with Mail and Elm.
  153.  
  154. WWW        As for FTP. Well, it's been tested with AMosaic, but
  155.         if there is a secret Netscape clone for the Amiga
  156.         that I could test it with, will someone PLEASE let me
  157.         know? :)
  158.  
  159. Gopher        As for FTP. Tested with Graham's AmigaGuide-based
  160.         Gopher.
  161.  
  162. News        This isn't currently working and will be removed
  163.         from v1.11 onwards until someone writes a newreader I
  164.         can call up with it.
  165.  
  166. AmiTCPhome    This is the home directory for AmiTCP. Make sure you
  167.         include    trailing "/" or ":", ie. "Data:AmiTCP/".
  168.  
  169. Editor        This is the editor you will run when editing your
  170.         config in the menus. Put the complete path and name
  171.         of the program. To be able to edit the files it says
  172.         it can they have to be in the AmiTCP:db and
  173.         AmiTCP:usr/lib directories. Tested with TurboText.
  174.  
  175. SMail        This is the sendmail command for AmiTCPHelper to use.
  176.         It must    reside in Amitcp:bin. Just enter the filename.
  177.  
  178. Link        This is your *ARexx* link script. AmiTCPHelper
  179.         automatically looks for this script in your
  180.         AmiTCPHome bin directory. Tested with "Link" and
  181.         phil's (phil@curve.demon.co.uk) "PLink".
  182.  
  183. LinkOpts    The options for linking up. You should at least give
  184.         "up" as an option, but you can also put "up news" or
  185.         any other commands that your link script supports.

  187. HList        As for FTP. This is the Hotlist program for Mosaic.
  188.         There is only one as far as I know.
  189.  
  190. Ping        As for FTP. This is your Ping command.
  191.  
  192. Finger        As for FTP. This is the command you should use for
  193.         finger (oo-err).
  194.  
  195. Clock        As for FTP. This is the clock command you are going
  196.         to use. So far I have only tested it with Syncro.

  198. IRC        As for FTP. Enter the name of your IRC client.
  199.         Remember to include the path. Tested with Grapevine.
  200.  
  201. Telnet        Your telnet application. It works with Telnet_VGOODER
  202.         from Demon and should work with most if not all of
  203.         the others.

  205. Startnet    This tooltype determines whether you want the
  206.         startnet script executed by AmiTCPHelper or in your
  207.         user-startup. Enter yes for yes and no for no (quel
  208.         surprise!).

  215. About        This shows you what version of AmiTCPHelper you are
  216.         running and my name and email address. If you
  217.         register this is where your personalisation will
  218.         appear.

  222. Quit        Surprisingly enough, this actually quits out of
  223.         AmiTCPHelper.

  229. Aliases        Hmm, God knows what this does...

  231. Config        This lets you edit your AmiTCP:usr/lib/config file.

  237. NewsGroups    Surprise, surpise, surprise... This lets you edit your
  238.         newsgroups. Remember kiddies, the number after the
  239.         newsgroup is how many days to keep news for before it
  240.         gets trimmed.

  242. NewsStamp    Lets you edit the newsstamp so you aren't on the
  243.         blower downloading all night... :)

  245. Startnet    Lets you edit the startnet script. Changes made will
  246.         obviously not work until you re-run the startnet
